Digital culture is a word that honestly will mean different things to different people. To me the word describes the life of everyone living today. Digital culture is such a huge part of people’s everyday lives, it is kind of crazy. From trends to simply just memes, digital culture encapsulates us as a society. As a society, digital culture is the thing that brings us together and makes our differences go away. The development of social media and streaming platforms has escalated the old era of digital media to what we know today as the era of modern digital media.
This beyond viral Netflix series know as squid game blew up in the public’s eye. This South Korean produced TV series was instantly popular across the world. The show released to Netflix on September 17, 2021, and four days after its release it was on the number 1 show on Netflix. It remained as the number one watched series on Netflix for 47 days in a row and has over 1.5billion hours of watch time. As you can see this was a hit around the world. This hit of a show sparked companies to make costume so kids could dress up for Halloween and famous youtubers tried to recreate the show.
The famous youtuber known as MrBeast saw potential in the recreation of the famous TV series. If you have been living under a rock, MrBeast is the number one most subscribed YouTube channel on the platform to this day. He has over 234M subscribers on his main channel. As MrBeast predicted this video would blow up and because of the video blowing up, the show did even better. with YouTube being a free to use platform, this video made the relevance of the show even more relevant. This video was produced 2 years ago and has made over 565M views. The popularity of the video is almost parallel to the show. That big audience is basically what digital media is. In today’s world digital media is something that brings a group of people together. Basically, where people can connect on something they saw, and they can share their appreciation for it.

Hi Dustin,
Squid game was definitely a huge trend all over the world, I still remember when the series was released, all my classmates around me were keeping talking about this series. Several of my classmates were even planning to organize a school activity to imitate some games appeared in squid game. It is a good example demonstrating how social media can connect the whole world.
I also partly agree that digital culture makes people's difference go away, but not exactly. On the internet, people's authority is still related to their identity in your real life. It is true that everybody can communicate with anyone, yet people with authority in the real life are still more persuasive than other normal user.
